The purpose of this organization is to provide an opportunity for student dancers to continue their education in various styles of dance and improve in mastering the art of dance and performance. The drill team is an elite organization of dancers at Skyridge High School. The team members must be role models to their peers and will share the responsibility of fostering school spirit and pride. This organization will require countless hours spent rehearsing for various performances and competitions. Thus, members of the drill team must be dedicated dancers who are responsible and highly self-motivated.
The Skyridge drill team competes in the categories of: Military, Dance, and Show.
Meet the coaches:
Sarah Murphy trained at Hi-Light Dance Academy for ten years with intense training in ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, and contemporary. She has been teaching and choreographing award winning routines for over ten years for studios, universities, and drill teams throughout Utah and Idaho. She danced on the drill team at Lone Peak High School where she served as Captain for two years, helped lead the team to three region championships, a first place dance routine at state, was awarded the All-Region award, and served as the Assistant Coach from 2011-2012. She has also won numerous scholarships and awards at national conventions including LA Dance Magic and Jump and was a Miss Drill Team Utah top 10 finalist. She has assisted the Stadium of Fire dancers and the production of San Francisco Symphony’s “Midnight Surprise”. Sarah is a former staff member for Epic Productions- Drill,Dance, and Cheer, and Summer Slam Dance Camps. She has been with the Skyridge Drill Team for two years, and has a passion and love for the sport of drill and this team. Sarah’s current and most important work is happening in her home as she raises her children, Norah,Samson, and Malcolm with the help of her husband McKay.
Kyra Montfleury - Coach
Kyra Geertsen Montfleury grew her love for dance when she was 5 years old. Learning from Ultimate Dance Studio until the age of 16. Throughout her dancing years she won 11 overall solo championship titles. She has choreographed award winning dances since the age of 15. She loves to be creative and innovative with her choreography. She has taught at Project dance and Ultimate Dance and teaches at Move Dance Studio. During her high school years, Kyra was able to accomplish many goals and achievements. Attending Bingham high school, her senior year as a Minerette. During this time she was an all star for drill. Kyra is also grateful to be the sterling scholar winner for dance. She placed 4th attendant in the Miss Drill Utah dance pageant in 2017. She then won eighth place in the Miss Dance Drill Team USA, which is the 1st official and most prestigious national dance competition. She was able to join the UVU dance team in 2017, and continues to improve her dancing/teaching talents. She coached the first ever Mountain Ridge Drill Team, and was very successful. She fell in love with coaching drill and hopes to continue to inspire dancers.
Kemry has been dancing for 9 years. As a young teenager she decided that her love for soccer now needed to become a love for dance. She began her training at The Dance Club where she learned to love jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and ballet. She was able to receive many Conventional Scholarships including NYCDA, Jump, Hollywood Vibe, and Radix. As a sophomore in high school, she joined the Skyridge Drill Team and Dance Company and over the next three years received many awards and gained invaluable experience. As a team they finished top 10 in state every year. Personally, she was honored with the Queen of the Camp at PDC, top 10 in Miss Drill Utah, top 5A score at Miss Drill Utah, Top Corp award at Epic and was also able to compete as a high scoring soloist. As a junior and senior she served as Spirit Officer on the drill team. She was also given choreography opportunities on both teams. She is currently a member of the Utah Valley University Dance Team, and is continuing to improve her dancing. She is a teacher and choreographer at Aspire Dance Academy and Erika’s dance studio. She is so thankful for the opportunity to continue her involvement with Skyridge Drill and can’t wait to share her passion of dance with others.
